About Tina
Tina is a beautiful Sparkman & Stephens 60′, 50 ton Ketch. She can carry up to 5 sails, and in a good wind sails up to 8/ 9 knots.
She probably one of the largest privately owned yachts in this bay, and is fully licensed as a charter. Tina is equipped to carry up to 12
passengers and is kept and beautifully maintained to be a safe and comfortable environment for all, including small children. The fact that she is so much larger than other charter boats means that her decks offer a more spacious safe area for youngsters to play in.
A brief history
Irving Johnson was a notable sailor of the mid 20th Century, heralded for his knowledge of the South Pacific and many publications about global
explorations. In the 1950’s, Johnson and his wife Electa commissioned Sparkman Stephens to build their ‘dream ship’, a 50′ Ketch which they named,
“Yankee” as per their preious boats, and many of their on-board adventures were featured in the National Geographic magazine.
These articles were the inspiration that led a German named Hors van De Linden, with his own dream of global expedition, to commission “Tina” to
the same design, and she was launched in 1974.
Tina was bought by her current owner and Captain, Leigh 15 years ago and put out to Charter.
With her large decks you can soak up the sun, and her large cockpit to escape it, she offers a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
Captain Leigh & Crew
Leigh was born in London, UK and spent much of his childhood on his father’s motor yacht in Kent.
In 1986 he and his father moved from the UK to live sailing the Mediterranean sea around the Spanish coast, and has spent the last 16 years in Puerto Pollenca, Mallorca.
